If you will look at this temple from the outside, you will notice that it isn’t as shining, shimmering, and splendid with gold color all over unlike any other temples you will find. Yet, when you step inside it, you will see what makes it different from the others. You will easily notice the huge reclining Buddha statue, one of the biggest of its kind in Southeast Asia.
It was built in 1899 but it had flaws as the years passed by. That being said, the statue was rebuilt in 1950s. Aside from that, what makes the statue different is its eyes made of glass unlike any other reclining Buddha statues in Myanmar.
KYAUKTAN YELE PAGODA
This Buddhist pagoda is located in Kyauktan Township, in the south of Yangon Myanmar. The only way to get into this temple is by riding a boat. Before the ride, you have to take off your shoes (and socks if you are wearing one) and put it in a plastic bag for you to carry it. Otherwise, you can leave them with the attendants before hopping into the boat.
Upon entering the temple, you will be left in awe by its structure and intricate details. The complex has different large decorated structures, all are beautifully made. In addition, you can buy puffed rice balls that you can toss on to the river as an offering to the spirits.
Where else you could make merit in Yangon Myanmar? Shwedagon Pagoda wouldn’t miss the list, one of the largest in the country. Not only that, as it is the most famous landmark in Yangon and the most sacred one in Myanmar. Its flashy golden color makes this marvelous structure easily seen.
Aside from that, there are plenty of colorful structures inside that you can explore. Despite its popularity among locals and foreign visitors which makes it crowded, it still has quiet places where you can pray and perform rites.
